Frequently asked questions

How is engagement rate calculated?

The most common formula is (Likes + Comments + Shares/Saves) ÷ Followers × 100. This calculator uses that follower-based formula, since it's the version most creators and brands report.

What's a good engagement rate?

It depends heavily on platform, niche, and account size — smaller accounts typically see higher engagement rates than large ones. As a rough guide: Instagram 1-3.5% is average and 3.5%+ is good; TikTok runs much higher, often 3-9% average; LinkedIn and Facebook tend to sit under 2%.

Should I use followers or reach/impressions in the formula?

Follower-based engagement rate (used here) is the most common for benchmarking and comparing accounts. Reach-based (using impressions/views instead of followers) tells you how well a specific post performed with the people who actually saw it — both are useful for different questions.

Why is my engagement rate lower than these benchmarks?

Engagement rate naturally drops as follower count grows, since not every follower sees or engages with every post. A low rate on one post also isn't a verdict on your whole account — look at your average across several posts.

Does this tool store or share my numbers?

No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser — nothing you type is sent anywhere or saved.
